Selous is the largest reserve in Africa and, by the way, one of the largest in the world, with an area of 54,600 km2. With its unique ecosystem of lakes, swamps, savannahs and over 2,100 plant species, Selous is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The reserve was founded in 1905 and named after Frederick Courtney Selous, a British officer, explorer, hunter and conservationist.
The park is home to globally significant populations of African elephants (over 100,000), black rhino and African dog. There are many hippos, buffaloes, antelopes, kudu, zebras, impalas, cannes. In addition, there are Nile crocodiles, Masai giraffes, about 440 species of birds, including the Udzungwa partridge, guinea fowl, ostriches and parrots.
SCHEDULE:
Early morning pick up from hotels
07:30 - direct flight to Selous Park;
08:30-09:00 - start of the safari;
10:30 - tea / coffee break;
12:30 - authentic hot safari lunch;
15:30 - end of the safari;
16:15 - direct flight from the park to the island;
17:05 - arrival to the island of Zanzibar, transfer to the hotel.
